The Magat River had its origins in the province of Nueva Vizcaya, specifically in the municipality of Aritao. It boasts an impressive length of 226 kilometers, earning the title of the longest river in the province. Notably, it claims the position of the largest tributary in terms of water volume among its counterparts. Spanning approximately 5,200 square kilometers of drainage area, the Magat River plays a significant role, contributing about twenty percent to the overall drainage areas of the Cagayan River.
One cannot ignore the captivating charm of Magat River, characterized by its pristine waters and the picturesque embrace of the surrounding mountains. Travelers frequently opt to pause along its banks, whether for a meal, a brief respite, or simply to immerse themselves in the natural beauty that unfolds. It’s no surprise that many seek solace here after a long journey, taking advantage of the opportunity to rest and indulge in the local delicacies offered by nearby food stalls. In the morning, a gentle breeze descends from the mountains, creating a refreshing ambiance as it dances through the river, accompanied by the soothing melody of rushing water that fills the air.
When the heat intensifies during the summer months, locals swarm to the Magat River for a cooling escape, whether it be a leisurely swim or a refreshing dip to evade the scorching sun. For both recreation and a post-school cooldown, children of all ages used to eagerly leap or dive from makeshift platforms lining the river’s edge.
